Team Red is a multi-channel video installation composed of screenshots collected from Google Street View in four cities: Cape Town, Berlin, Taipei, and Mexico City. The work gathers individuals wearing red clothing and presents them as a curated collection based solely on this shared visual characteristic.
The installation consists of eight screens. Four screens document the process of searching for and capturing these individuals within the digital landscape of Google Street View. The remaining four screens display the collected images as a continuous panoramic composition, categorizing each person according to the city in which they were photographed.
By selecting and organizing people according to a single visual attribute, the work examines how identity can be reduced, categorized, and stripped of context within digital environments. Although each individual possesses a unique history, culture, and personal experience, these complexities disappear when viewed through the lens of data collection and classification. In Team Red, people who have never met and share nothing beyond the color of their clothing are grouped together as if they belong to the same community.
The project reflects on the ways digital technologies encourage us to sort, archive, and interpret human beings through simplified categories. It questions how identity is transformed when individuals become images, data points, and searchable subjects within increasingly mediated digital spaces.
