Biography

A Japanese new media artist. Through studying abroad in diverse cultural contexts such as the United States and Germany, he engages with a wide range of perspectives and continually approaches both himself and the world from multiple viewpoints. Working primarily with video, photography, installation, and generative AI, his practice explores how human existence becomes unstable and selectively perceived within contemporary information society, urban environments, and the rapid advancement of technology. In his work, he presents social structures from a certain distance, deliberately avoiding clear answers in order to evoke a sense of discomfort and inquiry in the viewer. His work invites viewers to reconsider their own position and relationship to others within these structures.

Artist statement

What I am exploring through art is the question of how technology affects human existence, values, and social structures. I also have a strong interest in people’s lives in urban spaces. and in the way contemporary society is intersecting with various cultures. For me, art is an important way to think about the future and to communicate with people beyond language and cultural barriers.

The starting point for my creative activities is the sense of the space itself becoming a medium that I felt at the exhibitions of TeamLab, a digital art collective in Tokyo, and my fascination with the idea of the viewer becoming part of the work itself. From there, I became strongly attracted to the possibilities of new media art. Furthermore, through my study abroad experiences in Germany and the U.S., I was exposed to an environment where diverse values coexisted, which greatly broadened my own perspective. In my work, I consciously incorporate a structure that encourages the viewer to question his or her own position and perspective against the backdrop of these experiences. Through the work, I hope to share with the audience fundamental questions such as where humanity is headed and how we can live with technology.

Production uses a variety of digital tools including DSLR cameras, Processing, Blender, Photoshop, Stable Diffusion, WAN, ComfyUI, ChatGPT, and others. I also have a style that actively incorporates coincidences and unexpected results into my work. Technology has grown along with human society. However, AI, which has been developing in recent years, is changing our conventional wisdom, and must be used with caution. I do not see technology as a mere tool, but as a partner in expanding our human potential. In the future, I would like to explore the relationship between people and technology by challenging myself to create works that focus more on spatial experience and on a larger scale.
